12 March 2010 : Wexford Opera House scoops Civic Trust Award

Keith Williams Architects and the Office of Public Works in Ireland have won a prestigious Civic Trust Award for their project, Wexford Opera House.

Civic Trust Awards are given to projects that make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment and have a positive impact on the local community.

Over 50 projects from the UK, Ireland and Spain have been recognised by the prestigious Civic Trust Awards. The Awards were presented to the best new buildings, public spaces, restorations and public art.

The 2010 Civic Trust Awards attracted over 330 entries and winning projects demonstrating excellence in design whilst offering a cultural, social or economic benefit to the local community.

Civic Trust Awards Managing Director, Malcolm Hankey said “we were delighted to see such a diverse range of projects submitted for consideration. The Civic Trust Awards celebrate not only design excellence, but also the relationship between structures, places, the environment and local communities. This year’s group of winners successfully illustrate how this relationship can produce effective and imaginative solutions.”

The award was presented by Civic Trust patron George Clarke, architect, writer and presenter of Channel 4’s The Home Show to Keith Williams at the awards dinner last Friday night in Liverpool’s St Georges Hall.

Wexford Opera House has now won six major design and construction awards.
