Keith Williams Architects was invited by the City of Bochum to propose a new concert hall building in the city centre as the new home of the Bochum Symphoniker.
The project extends the basic concert hall brief to allow the building to operate at a civic level enabling the completion of this fractured piece of city by creating a new square separating the Musikzentrum and the Marienkirche, thereby uniting key aspects of the fragmented post-war city plan. The designs carefully position the new concert hall centrally within a new square to create a newly defined city space and a new set piece of important cityscape centred on the new Bochum Musikzentrum (Concert Hall) and the Marienkirche (19th century church) which was restored and extended during the 1950s, after the wartime bombing.
Artistic director Stephen Sloane has already established Bochum as an important destination for classical music. The proposed building houses a new 900 seat concert hall and a recital hall seating 250, with supporting rehearsal and practice spaces, resulting in an aspirational and replicas rolex oyster perpetual date 15200 2 economic cultural building capable of staging music at the highest international level. The foyer on two levels spans the entire width of the building enabling the audience to enter the concert hall or recital hall at either stalls or balcony levels whilst at the same time using the gathering public to animate the main public elevation through a series of city scale vitrines within the overall facade.
